The “Mountain Music” trio will make a stop in South Carolina as part of their latest tour with the Charley Daniels Band. The show starts at 7 PM and tickets are available to purchase online.
Though they carry the name of a different state, South Carolina is a special place for Alabama. Over 40 years ago lead singer Randy Owen, bassist Teddy Gentry, and guitarist Jeff Cook decided to get serious about pursuing music as a career, so they packed up and drove off to Myrtle Beach to spend the summer playing the famous Bowery bar for tips. A few years later, they began to find their way to the charts and started gaining attention from record labels. Though they’d already made a name for themselves through relentless touring and self-promotion, Alabama eventually signed a deal with RCA Records, which catapulted them to stardom and made them titans of the genre.
Throughout the 80s and 90s, Alabama cranked out hit after hit and changed the country music scene forever. In 2003, the group announced their retirement and embarked on a farewell tour that was initially slated to hit 40 cities across the country but ended up topping out around 70 due to demand. They couldn’t stay apart too long, however. In 2010, after Randy Owen beat a prostate cancer diagnosis, the band reunited and have been playing together ever since.
2019 marks 50 years since the band first came together, and this tour aims to celebrate that anniversary by paying tribute to five decades of unparalleled success – which includes more than 40 number one singles, 23 studio albums, and over 200 different awards (including two Grammys). Even after all this time, Alabama still manages to electrify crowds with a thrilling live show that never disappoints. This is a show you definitely don’t want to miss.
