Need a little more laughter in your life? You’ll get all the laughter you need when Patton Oswalt comes to the Peace Center on March 30. Tickets are $45–$75 and will get you into one of the funniest shows you’ve ever seen.
You likely know him from “The King of Queens,” “Veep,” and other shows, but how much do you really know about the man behind the characters? Get some information, so you’ll have a new appreciation of Oswalt before you attend the show.
He Finds Comedy in Pain
Oswalt has long been known for his witty comedy performances, but now, there is a new dimension to his standup routine. His wife Michelle McNamara passed away in 2016, and he’s found a way to use that pain to venture into new comedic territory. His comedy sets are much more profound now, and they will make you laugh, cry, and think about your own life in a new way.
What’s in a Name?
Patton is an unusual first name. You likely think it’s a family name, but it’s not. He’s actually named after General George S. Patton. Oswalt’s dad was an officer in the United States Marine Corps and chose to name his son after one of his heroes. Just imagine if Oswalt had followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the military. He would have had some big boots to fill with a name like Patton.

He’s a Huge Movie Buff
Think you like movies? You probably don’t like them nearly as much as Oswalt does. He loves movies so much that he wrote a book about it. It’s a memoir titled, “Silver Screen Fiend: Learning About Life from an Addiction to Film,” and it’s a great read. Oswalt writes about coming into his own as a performer while feeding his addiction to watching movies at the New Beverly Cinema. He hit the theater at least three nights a week, so it’s amazing he had enough time to become famous.
